Summer is a state of mind… and anything over 70. For those of us unwilling to embrace autumn quiiiite yet, we've curated a list of eight late-great-summer getaways. So keep those short shorts on for a few more weeks!

1. San Francisco, California: Flower Power and Fog

Home of the counterculture movement and a model for city parks, The Bay hits its summer stride in August and September. Take a stroll through Haight-Ashbury (find the record stores on side streets), eat pastries in Dolores Park, and don’t sleep on the Golden Gate Bridge - she really is an icon. Bonus: walk, bike, or rance (run dance) across it.

2. Austin, Texas: Keeping it Weird

Everything is bigger in Texas - including the vibes. A haven for BBQ and music lovers, throw a stone (well, not really) and you’ll hit a live performance. Peruse the funky shops, eat every meal from a food truck, and don't miss the chance to take a dip in Barton Springs. Bring her’ dancin’ shoes.

3. Woodstock, New York: Peace, Love, and Music

Relive the legendary Woodstock Festival in the picturesque town of Woodstock, New York. The nostalgia is high as you wander charming streets filled with art galleries and vintage shops (did someone say “fringe vest”?). Hit up the Early Terrible for a Hemingway Daiquiri. And if the hangover isn’t hangin’, take a toodle in the nearby Catskill Mountains.

4. New Orleans, Louisiana: So Much More than Jazz

Ah, New Orleans… the best place to join a parade, make friends in a bathroom, and eat your weight in fried food. ZigZag the vibrant French Quarter, pop into the music venues on Frenchman St, and spend a slow afternoon perusing the shops on Magazine street. For the architecture buffs, book a bike tour and zip through the garden district (and keep your eyes peeled for estate sales!). Top it off with late night beignets at Cafe du Monde and vow to come back for Jazz Fest in April.

5. Portland, Oregon: The Dream of the 90s is Alive

Now that the 90s are considered “retro”, make your way to 90s Heaven for quirky streetstyle and theaters that only show movies on film. Known for its eco-friendliness and artisanal-hand-crafted everything, just ask someone where their favorite ____(bar, hike, dim sum joint, make out spot, etc) __ is. Don't over plan, keep it spontaneous.

6. Carpinteria, California: Slow Down, Lil’ Doggy

Full disclosure: this is our hometown. Tucked into this sleepy little surf town in Southern California, Carp is not the place for all night clubbing - but it IS the spot for old timey candy shops (Robitaille’s!), cash-only corn dog stands (The Spot!), and world renowned surf breaks (Rincon!). Leave your car parked and your swim suit handy.

7. Sedona, Arizona: A Spiritual Oasis

If you're in need of some soul-searching, head to Sedona. Known for its stunning red rock formations and spiritual energy, this desert town will awaken your senses and rejuvenate your spirit. Take a vortex tour, practice yoga, or simply meditate amidst the breathtaking scenery.

8. Nashville, Tennessee: Music City Magic

Last but not least, make your way to the Mecca of 2-step enthusiasts, Nashville. Don your grooviest bell bottoms and your sparkliest rhinestones to hit the honky-tonks on Broadway. Seek the hair of the dog in East Nashville. For the sentimentalists, catch a live performance at the Grand Ole Opry (yes it’s corny, yes it’s amazing). And don’t fight it: Give in to the hot chicken and Southern comfort food while you're there — just make sure to pack some stretchy pants for the trip home.

So, there you have it, folks! Don’t let the tabloids tell you summer’s over… pack your short shorts and plenty of sunscreen because sunshine and good times await you this September!
